The Tree of Life by Patrizia Ferreira

$5,135.00

Repurposed Found Tablecloth, Fabric Remnants, Repurposed Plastic Waste, Yarn, Thread, Glass and Plastic Beads; 90×49 inches

On a heirloom tablecloth, a jungle erupts. A black river cuts it in half and opens a crevice. The crevice is a metaphor to our broken planet, polluted, and damaged. The color black is symbolic of petrochemicals and its fatal consequences over the health of our climate and our environment. At a deeper level this piece with its circular shape is also a metaphor to the female body, the red and green areas inspired by El Ceibo, a coral tree that grows wild in Uruguay. This tree is said to represent fertility in many cultures, with its red fruit in the shape of blood drops, the most essential sign of life, and regeneration.
