The Deluge by Patrizia Ferreira

$8,450.00

Repurposed Fabric, Yarn, Thread, Embroidery Floss, Plastic and Glass Beads, Repurposed Single-Use Plastic, Found Shells; 55.5×33 inches

A naked woman is depicted holding on to a bare tree. Its roots are buried in wet soil, water drips from them. It’s the dawn of time, life pends on a single vein, the twilight of times. The allegory if this piece makes reference to chapters 6-9 of the Book of Genesis where it is described of God’s decision to return the universe to its pre-creation state.

It is also meant to symbolize our current environmental crisis with the melting of glaciers, warming waters and the increase in sea level. This climate crisis is already forcing people to migrate to dryer grounds, losing everything along the way and in innumerable instances perishing under the leviathan force of water. Water, such an essential element for life, and yet such a devastating force when unleashed.

The message in the end, however, is one of hope. As life teeters on the verge of extinction, and blood drips, its pulsing rhythm heavy and dense, reaching further than water. At the twilight of life, as the sun sets, a new sunrise waits on the other side. Life continues its beat.
