Sky Box (Diptych) by Paget Marion Blythe
10" x 20";
Acrylic and mixed media on wood panel;
2025
"Sky Box" is one of my recent works that explores the concept of excavation; painted and collaged layers are physically manipulated, torn and/or removed to allow for destructive revelations in the composition. Understanding abstraction in painting as a mode of collage, I am particularly interested in the ways that the piecing together of image, color and pattern activate the viewer. Our thoughts and perceptions are in a constant state of change and rearrangement, and this series illuminates the malleability of identity at play both in the process of creation and reception of the work.
