Woodcuts can show the strength and story in people's lives as readily expressed in the grain and toughness of wood. Through wiry lines, sinewy at times, and dark contrasting shapes and textures, a face and a story emerge. Many of my woodcuts are inspired by my youth, growing up in rural eastern North Carolina. I have respect and empathy for the rural life and the dignity of work. This image of the singular man in a quiet moment of reflection is my way of honoring many inspiring memories.
