Either Way I Choose I Lose by Jennifer Clifton

$3,600.00

48"x36";
gouache, glitter and sequins on canvas;
2025

Either Way I Choose I Lose, a mixed media piece created with individually hand placed sequins and glitter bedazzlement speaks to the mind vs. heart argument we have all had in our heads. While painstakingly placing sequins for hours upon hours I thought about if I was more influenced by my heart or mind in making critical decisions in my life. After much thought and debate with myself, I came to the conclusion that - just like the nature vs. nurture debate - it is difficult to envision the mind or heart working solo without the others' influence. This is my first truly bedazzled mixed media piece. I think that my affinity for sparkle and decoration can be attributed to my experience living in New Orleans. The incredible fast and glitzy NOLA backdrop including Mardi Gras, Southern Decadence and The Mardi Gras Indians fed both my mind and heart for many years to come.
