Breath of the Dusk

Breath of the Dusk features ink paintings and ceramic sculptures of sensual plant-body hybrids, inspired by traditional Chinese Qi patterns and the colors of sunsets the artist has walked through. These botanical cyborgs challenge the perceived passivity of Chinese ornaments under the Orientalist gaze, as well as Confucian patriarchy, which categorizes beings into hierarchical orders. The coiling Qi patterns of ancient China imagine a fluid, ever-transforming way of existence, while the transient colors of dusk offer a liminal state of tranquility beyond geographical boundaries. Informed by both heritage and nature, the exhibition invites boundless growth, dancing between the dualities of softness and violence, tranquility and decadence.
