62nd Annual Juried Exhibition - SunTrust Gallery

The Durham Art Guild presents their 62nd Annual Juried Exhibition featuring 77 works of art by 50 member and non-member community artists. This year's exhibition artwork was selected by Jennifer Sudul Edwards, Ph.D., Curator of the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte, NC.

Join us for public receptions during Third Friday Durham on August 19 and September 16 from 5-7pm. Jennifer Sudul Edwards will give a free juror lecture and announce the awards at a date and time yet to be determined.

About the Juror:
Jennifer Sudul Edwards grew up in and around New York City. She received her doctorate in 2014 from New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts, writing her dissertation on the early works of Niki de Saint Phalle under the advisement of Linda Nochlin and Robert Storr. Her research was generously funded by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She spent seven years in Los Angeles, finishing her graduate degree and holding curatorial posts at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art where she helped organize the exhibition Pasadena to Santa Barbara: A Selected History of Southern California Art, 1951-1969, part of the Getty’s Pacific Standard Time series. She also worked at the Norton Simon Museum, assisting with the catalogue raisonne of the museum’s Goya collection.  In June 2015, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to become the curator at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. Since arriving at the Bechtler, she has organized five shows:  Portraying the Patron:  Andy Warhol and the Bechtler Family; Rapid Fluid Indivisible Vision: Sam Francis; The Art of the Print; The House That Modernism Built; and All That Sparkles:  Artists’ Jewelry. She is currently preparing a large exhibition showcasing recent research on the collection, as well as a survey of Jean Tinguely. 

About the Bechtler:
The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art is dedicated to the celebration and analysis of the strongest aspects of mid-century modernism as reflected in the holdings of the Bechtler collection.

The collection comprises more than 1,400 works by 20th-century modern artists. Some works are accompanied by books, photographs and letters illustrating personal connections to the Bechtler family.
