Sitting Still - Room 100 Gallery

The Durham Art Guild presents "Sitting Still" featuring
paintings contemplating Chairs as Still Life by DAG member
artist Kristin Gibson. Suggestions of chairs have made their
way into many of Gibson's paintings. A tribute of sorts to
those who have sat there or shared around the table. A
percentage of proceeds from exhibition sales will benefit the
Ronald McDonald House of Durham & Wake.

This exhibition will be on view at Room 100 Gallery at Golden Belt January 9 - February 5, 2018.

Join us for a 3rd Friday public reception with the artist on January 19 from 6-9pm.

Kristin Gibson received her BFA in Painting and Surface Design from ECU School of Art and Design in 1990. Kristin’s career began in textiles, designing fabric collections for home furnishings and apparel, experience which continues to inform her strong sense of color and composition. Her vibrant painterly style is well-regarded in the fine art galleries that represent her work: City Art Gallery in Greenville, Eno Gallery in Hillsborough, Tyler White O'Brien Gallery in Greensboro and Artshak Gallery in Southport, NC.

Still life, happening upon and composing elements of daily life has been where I have found my painting voice. Flowers found on a walk, vegetables fresh picked at the market, a chair with books, a corner of a room. Chairs in particular made their way into my work in response to seasons of significant loss and change. Three years ago another life change brought my family to Durham. Many nights spent at the Ronald McDonald House in Durham with daily walks in Duke Gardens became my solace. This collection of works speaks to gratefulness, hope, reflection and coming out the other side. Thank you for visiting Room 100 and sharing a moment “Sitting Still”.
